There are still far more people in way more desperate situations than our own. We’ve been planning this since before are direct problems hit!?! So we aren’t giving in or giving up on them  and this benefit! All proceeds and itemized donations go to the immigrants & refugees in need. They are being denied basic necessities while being detained like second class criminal human animals!?!?! While under the “protection” of the US gov. Via “ICE” the newest scary 3 letter acronym. . . Who would’ve thought!?! Human rights violations abound. We are just trying to get them basic humanitarian aide; from toilet paper, diapers, warm clothes for fall & the coming winter, etc.

Ironically, we have found ourselves in a quite desperate situation by the hand of the power elite & greedy, yet our cause always was & always will be to help those in need near & far #globalcitizens  #supportthecauseandthecausewillsupportyou !!!

"Big Fish", by Tim Burton (Lhooq's Thursday Night Movie)

THIS THURSDAY (Thursday 09/12/19) just after sunset 🌅 Join us as we screen the Tim Burton Classic, Big Fish. The 2003 Adventure Fantasy film written, directed and produced by Tim Burton based on the Daniel Wallace novel "Big Fish: A Novel Of Mythic Proportions". Big Fish begins as United Press International journalist Will Bloom and his French freelance photojournalist wife Josephine Bloom, who is pregnant with their first child, leave their Paris base to return to Will's hometown of Ashton, Alabama on the news that his father, Edward Bloom, stricken with cancer, will soon die, he being taken off chemotherapy treatment. Although connected indirectly through Will's mother/Edward's wife, Sandra Bloom, Will has been estranged from his father for three years since his and Josephine's wedding. Will's issue with his father is the fanciful tales Edward has told of his life all his life, not only to Will but the whole world. As a child when Edward was largely absent as a traveling salesman, Will believed those stories, but now realizes that he does not know his father, who, as he continues to tell these stories, he will never get to know unless Edward comes clean with the truth before he dies. On the brink of his own family life beginning, Will does not want to be the kind of father Edward has been to him. One of those stories from Edward's childhood - that he saw his own death in the glass eye of a witch - led to him embracing life since he would not have to fear death knowing when and how it would eventually come. The question is whether Will will be able to reconcile Edward's stories against his real life, either directly from Edward before he dies and/or from other sources, and thus allow Will to come to a new understanding of himself and his life, past, present and future.
The film stars Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Jessica Lange, Billy Crudup and Helena Bonham Carter.

SORRY TO BOTHER YOU

SORRY TO BOTHER YOU

THIS THURSDAY (Thursday 07/11/19) just after sunset 🌅Join us as we screen Sorry to Bother You written and directed by debut feature filmmaker Boots Riley. The film stars Lakeith Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, Jermaine Fowler, Steven Yeun, Armie Hammer, Omari Hardwick, Terry Crews, Danny Glover and the voices of David Cross, Patton Oswalt and Lily James. A strange, surreal & hilarious satire guided by the intentionally unsteady hand of activist-rapper turned debut director, Boots Riley. Its commentary on media, society, race and working-class issues are poignant, brutally honest and consistently hilarious. The story follows Cassius, an African-American telemarketer in Oakland. When told to use his "white voice" on the job while making calls, he quickly rises through the ranks of his profession--and ends up getting a hefty promotion. All of a sudden, things start to spiral out of control. The film's social consciousness and commentary intersect in ways that are thoughtful, snappy, and deeply rooted in (often unfortunately) a sense of genuine realism. Yet the film's image of the world is not equal to our society with microscopic precision, as its humor often tends to look at current societal issues with the mirror of a macabre fun-house.

City of God

(Thursday 06/27/19) just after sunset 🌅 Join us while we screen the Contemporary, Art House Crime Drama City of God, directed by Fernando Meirelles. City Of God is based on a true story that takes place in the '60s where in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, two boys growing up in the neighborhood take on different paths in life. The story is told through the eyes of Rocket, a poor young fisherman's son who dreams of becoming a photographer one day. His story narrates the violence and corruption surrounding the city and the rise and fall of one of the city's most notorious bosses, Li'l Ze. As war wages on the streets, Rocket's only way out of this violent life is to expose its brutality to the world through his photography. Along the way the lives of others are put into perspective as their stories intersect with the events that take place. Paddle Out Fest

ina Fake/Southern Beacons/Rain on Fridays/Burnout Reef/Sean Jones/Serendipity/Katie M.

That’s a lot of music and I guess that’s why they are calling it a “fest”?!?! A festival of Punk Rock Spring/Summer good times!!!

Tina Fake played their very first live show ever here at Lhooq Books and they killed it. the band was passionate, driven, Loud, smart, a little crazy and tight as fuck! You really can’t ask for and get any more from a bands first time on stage. Plus, they packed the house! And it was all them! their friends & family came out in droves to support them and they did not disappoint! THESE GUYS ARE PRETTY YOUNG, BUT THEY PLAY WITH THE HEARTS AND ETHOS OF TRUE PUNK. Now they are coming back with a massive line up of friends and other bands they have met, connected with and collaborated with on the road and round town.

We are proud to present the rising stars of a scene that supposedly doesn’t exist. But try telling that to the hundreds that will be at Lhooq this coming Saturday 04/13/19!! We are starting early, 5pm to get everyone on the bill a full set! This also means we are going to do our best to present this like a local backyard/beach party with NO BBQ, but plenty of Beer, etc (please do not bring your own because whatever we provide you can get cheap and it will help serve the greater good…more funding for the nonprofit and the artists/performers.) Ultimately, all we ask is a minimum donation of $5, but we do think you can (and should) do more!?!?! Just check out this list of acts and they are all amazing!

You can donate/buy a $5 ticket here on our website http://www.;hooqxrealism.com/tickets in our shop prior to or day of, if not sold out by then, And if you really want to help support the bands and even our nonprofit you can donate more by clicking the donate block on the home page. All net profits go to the bands, and with this many bands we need a lot of donations to spread it around. Support the Cause and the Cause will support you!
